7000 years of history

Following seven years' construction work, the Øresund Bridge betweet Denmark and Sweden will be officially inaugurated by their Majesties, Queen Margrethe of Denmark and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden on Saturday July 1, 2000. The inauguration of the DKK 29 billion Øresund Bridge project will mark the culmination of one of Europe's largest construction projects ever and heralds a new era of cross-border cooperation between two nations which have been divided by the strait of Øresund since the Ice Age 7000 years ago. The historic inauguration, which will be transmitted by TV to an expected global audience of several hundred million viewers, is set to become the biggest public event in Scandinavia in recent years. Worldwide interest in the event is illustrated by the presence of an estimated 800representatives from media organization around the world. |
